MEMORIES, by Roisin Donnelly.

The needle enters my skin at a million miles a minute

Etching a symbol of you on my skin

To remain there perfectly in black and white

The wings of the magpie look like their beating

Against my back getting ready to take flight

This is how I remember you always strong

And ready to fight, for those that were apart of your life

Then a darkness took over and although you fought hard

It was just to much for you to bare

So now I sit and stare

At this grey plaque that states your name

But I know that you're not here

Not even the earth could keep you captive

You're with me in the darkness and light of day

Giving me the strength to fight and stay

With my head above it all

You're the magpie that beats its wings

To keep me on my feet

When all I want to do is give up and fall

You're the magpie that beats its wings

Keeping me safe through it all
