MY LADY OF THE WATER, by J. M. DeSantis.

Upon the cliffs before the waves
She stood waiting for me there.
Like seaweed in the waters,
Her tresses moved about the air.

With hand outstretched, she beckoned me
Where once I took my rest
The seductive gleam of her cold eyes,
The glisten of her pale-blue breast.

Her voice echoed far away
Hollow, though she smiled wide
And hearing its sweet aria,
I fell to my knees and cried.

A fool I was to rush forward
Seeking solace in her arms
And kiss her as I once had done
Those grey lips greatest of her charms.

But coming to the place she stood
My hands met naught but air,
And I looked upon the mocking waves
With a half unseeing stare.

For such is now the only way
I can with my lady be,
Sleeping forever 'neath the waves,
Her perfume the salt of the sea.
