On a train by James Mcloughlin.

Try this for a vision:
a soul on your shoulder,
soft breaths
up
and down,
while the train arrows through the twilight,

And seas of myriad lights
appear,
bulk and then divide,
points of yellow, blue, red, white
peppering the blanket darkness.

Zoom there.
There are the harbours
of fear unseen,
bogeymen and creatures of the deep.
Each station grants
reprieve.

I imagine. Each increment of
acceleration takes a year
from
the clock. A light goes out.
Another. The electrics fade,
finally you arrive
at year
Zero. The country open
to and beyond the horizon,
the roads mere mud,

Light and dark in balance
life in slower step.
